We started today meeting at the Jordan River where we studied different passages looking at the significance of the river and the symbolism of passing from death to life. It served as a great reminder of our history and context as believers. Just as God led the Israelites to new life through crossing the river and recognizing the significance of Naaman the Assyrian who was cleansed from leprosy in the Jordan, we can look forward to and anticipate the journey we are all traveling which leads across the barrier between our earthly and eternal lives.
We then travelled to Caesarea Philippi. It was an ancient Roman city in Northern Israel. There was a large temple to the god Pan. The pictures below show a rendering of what the temple may have looked like before it's destruction. Jesus brought disciples here to speak with them about building His Church. See Matthew 16:13 - 20. Today the cave is still standing in the face of the mountain, but the buildings have been toppled. They stand at the edge of a Stream, Natural Reserve which serves as a contributing water source for Israel. It's fascinating and challenging that Jesus talks to people about building His Church in the place/face of evil.
We then traveled south, towards our lodging, to visit Bet She'an. This is another ancient Roman city. While there we listened to Jim challenge us that often Satan works dilligently at steering us away from God. Satan cannot stop God from showing up in the assembly, so he does his best to keep us away.
We enjoyed lots of sunshine today! This evening we will gather for dinner and discussion. We are safe and settled for the evening. Thank you for praying for us!
I'll post pictures later when we have a better internet connection.
